Regional Planning
Regional Planning: Understanding Growing and Shrinking Regions
This was an exercise in understanding planning from a regional perspective. The class was divided into two groups: growing and shrinking regions. The process included: discovering the components that make up a region, how demographics impact the region, what problems the area faces, and examine current regional planning plans, if any existed.
I am originally from Florida, so I wanted to study in depth the region I grew up in. It was interesting to contrast the givens of a growing region to the challenges facing the shrinking regions.
The below works are the products of my research.

Community Meeting and Response
An additional exercise I completed relating to regional planning was one that asked me to attend a local community meeting for an organization that had a regional impact. I chose to attend a meeting held by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) concerning the improvements to a subway station in East Boston. The MBTA is an interesting organization to study because of its importance to many communities in the Metro Boston region.
The resulting memo is my analysis of the meeting, the goals of the project, an analysis of a regional report and my recommendations to the MBTA on achieving regional goals.
