Gopher Tortoise Relocation Bid
As part of my internship with Orange County Environmental Protect Division, I completed a bid to procure quotes for relocation of gopher tortoises in Orange County, Florida. The problem historically with gopher tortoises, an endangered species that live in burrows underground, is death by suffocation at the hands bulldozers covering their holes during development. This bid is for removal of gopher tortoises from Orange County owned land and relocation to a specified parcel that provides a suitable habitat.
Preparing this bid was a great experience in considering the costs of relocating animals, a concept that is frequently discussed, but I had never had the opportunity to examine in specific detail.

Clinical Research Paper
While in college, I worked for a cardiology core lab. I was conducting research on the efficacy of certain methods utilized in angiography, including the use of guardwire to prevent displaced thrombus from creating issues in distant vessels. The below paper was published in the journal Acute Cardiac Care, and was important in raising awareness in utilizing technology in this particular way.

Process for Processing As-Built Surveys
Also as part of my internship with Orange County Environmental Protection Division, I was responsible for processing as-built surveys and sending out letters of compliance and violation.
Orange County has many residences with lake front property. County regulations stipulate the placement of docks within a property. My job was to determine if the docks were built where and how they were stipulated in the original plans. A part of the problem with processing these notices pertaining to compliance and violation was a lack of a definitive process to manage the flow of the paperwork. The below diagram illustrates the process I developed and utilized with other staff to ensure a streamlined operation.

Big Sand Lake Elevations
In Orange County, one lake had many docks that residents were claiming they couldn't use. Their position was the docks as built per their permits were too short and they were unable to use the docks to launch their boats because of the low water elevation. Many residents were applying for variations to their permits to allow for extensions of the docks to access the deeper water.
Prior to issuing the first variance, the County needed to determine if the low water elevations were an anomaly or within the natural water cycles of the lake. By compiling nearly 50 years of data, I was able to determine the water elevation was actually consistent with the historic averages, and no variances should be granted.
