Community Economic Development
Green Tech Collaborative
The final task for the course on Community Economic Development was to develop a program that would benefit low-moderate income people. Our group chose to develop a program that educated people in solar panel installation as a way to provide them with a job in a fast growing industry, as well as increase the nation's capacity to produce energy from renewable resources.
The below presentation and report provide the details on how we sought to accomplish this task using existing educational programs and collaboration with local solar panel producers. The resulting product is a thoughtful way of achieving dual, symbiotic goals.

Economic Efficacy of Film Subsidies
As part of economic development, many cities and towns have offered subsidies and other incentives to film makers to attract them to film in their towns. The theory stands that the income from the presence of the production, and the increased tourism of fans post-release, more then offsets the initial cost of the subsidy. This essay examines the real motivations behind offering these subsidies, what financial impact the productions really have on the town, and if the benefits really do outweigh the costs. This was a critical exercise in understanding the efficacy of community economic development initiatives.
